Additional information on Interior Doors

Generally interior timber doors are 35mm in thickness, though some metric door ranges are supplied at 40mm thickness, if the doors are certified for fire protection they will be 45mm for FD30 or 54mm for FD60. Doors constructed for internal use should not be used externally regardless of their substantial construction. Internal modern doors are now usually engineered which refers to the solid construction made from a variety of timber cores which are then faced with real timber veneers or as in the case of economy doors which use a preformed manufactured, timber based, skin. This construction technique produces consistency in manufacture both for structural specifications and appearance.

Some of our internal doors are supplied un-finished which allows the customer to apply stains and varnishes of their own choosing, this is particularly the case for many traditional ranges. It is very important that the correct finishing product is used on timber doors. (Please refer to our Finishing tab for necessary information or contact our sales team). Our pre-finished ranges are fully finished to a high specification, styles are generally contemporary, though recently there are additional classic styles available, factory, pre-finished. These doors have the advantage of quicker installation though please remembered that during fitting, any areas shaved for minor adjustment should be treated to prevent moisture ingress.

If you require internal glazed doors we have many styles with pre-fitted glass. If an amount of privacy is preferred choosing obscure or frosted glazing may be the best option. Some of our internal doors are supplied unglazed with an aperture and timber bead kit included, allowing you to source your own glass, which can be an advantage when matching with existing types in the property. Please Note: when purchasing glass locally please ensure you fit the correct type either laminated or toughened for safety.
