I need a fire rated door which one shall I buy

Fire doors are designed to stop the spread of fire and/or smoke throughout a building. For domestic situations there are two common classifications of fire door, FD30 and FD60, these types can be identified on our website by a Red or Black flame icon.

Regrettably we cannot advise which rating of fire doors you should buy for your property, but this information can usually be obtained from your architect or building inspector who is overseeing your project. In general the doors leading onto an area with heavy traffic will probably be FD30 rated.

What do these certifications mean? The FD stands for ‘Fire Door’ then the numbers relate to the length of time that particular door is tested to withstand a fire (i.e. FD30 means the door will last for 30 minutes). If a fire rating is specified with an S on the end (e.g. ‘FD30S’) this stands for ‘Smoke’ and will mean the particular door or frame must also be fitted with smoke seals.

You can view our fire doors collection online.

Is my door a standard size

Not all door openings will suit standard size doors (especially in older properties) and it may be necessary to choose from our custom door range. However some of our standard size doors will allow for trimming (depending on the manufacturing method for that particular door). If you are in any doubt about the size of door that you require please contact our sales team.

What about the environment

When purchasing a wooden door you can be confident that you are not exhausting irreplaceable raw materials, such as bauxite used for aluminium doors, or oil for UPVC doors. We work closely with our suppliers to make certain that wherever possible all timber used for our products is sourced from well-managed forests, where more trees are planted than harvested. Many of our products are also fully FSC or PEFC approved.

What does Engineered mean?

The expression “Engineered” covers a broad range of door types. In a nutshell it means any door that has been fabricated using more than just single lengths of solid timber. Any one component from a door can consist of numerous solid wood materials such as block wood, particle board, finger jointed board etc. that usually veneered or covered with a timber facing. The majority of doors that we sell are engineered, as these are much less likely to warp/twist than traditionally made doors, and are also more economical in the use of natural timber resources.
